Show #16: Anything Goes - Country artist spotlight

(187 downloads)

Download this episode (29 min)
Spotlight on perhaps lesser known "indie" country artists but great country singers in their own right. These are artists we feel should be receiving more radio airplay! This show highlights artists such as Canadian country artist Dahlia Wakefield (VERY yummy artist) along with the likes of Doc Bates, Collin Raye, Bradley West, and Bobby Chitwood (the "indie" version of Brad Paisley). You'll find these artists doing what they love and do best, so you'll find us cheering them on and helping bring them more into the mainstream.

The Vast Wasteland is a show rammed down the public's throat via podcast and Shoutcast radio. The show is genuinely "about nothing" which means it is about anything--and yet nothing. Kinda like going to college and refusing to declare your major. We've found people tend to expect so much less of you that way!

We have several friends of the show, including a paranormal research group in Ashland, Ohio called the Greater Ashland Paranormal Society (G.A.P.S.) and we think that's cool, whether or not that's a ploy to cash in on the similarity with The Atlantic Paranormal Society (T.A.P.S.) that produces the TV show, "Ghost Hunters" (a show we happen to think is very cool and definitely the standard to emulate, especially if one can't be original enough to find one's own unique gig).

Something we've been asked a lot is what really cool stuff do we use to produce the TVL (The Vast Wasteland, without the "W") podcast and Shoutcast show. Here's the skinny:

1. Fairly high-end computer running Fedora Core Linux (nope, we don't run Microsoft Windows on the equipment used to produce the show)

2. Audacity - for recording and editing all audio

3. MixPad - timeline based multitrack mixer for laying down the various show-clips onto separate tracks, editing to draw everything together, and then mixing-down to the MP3 file that you listen to when you download or subscribe to the show.

4. Some talent or know-how in manipulating, mixing, and mixing-down audio tracks into a final product that HOPEFULLY doesn't suck too horribly!

Things we like: Chocolate, eating wings at Hooters (well, the "eating wings" part isn't as important), money (yeah, like we've actually GOT some!), and comfortable shoes.

Things we don't like: Vans with no windows.....kitten pie....having politicians tell us what we're thinking!
